Lovely Textures

August 2nd, 2008

Visited St Andrews recently and as I’m obsessed with close-up photography of textures and plants, I got drawn to the cemetry there and found some beauties…

First issue of Selvedge x2

July 30th, 2008

I treated myself last month and decided to stop visiting the Fruitmarket gallery and salivating over copies of Selvedge and actually subscribe to the magazine at long last. I got money off thanks to Rachel giving me a discount voucher – so don’t feel too much out of pocket. I got quite a suprise this morning when Abee delivered the post, to find not only the May/June edition, but the July/August one as well!

The view out of my window [2]

July 30th, 2008

Sorry to keep blogging about the weather – but we got our first taste of a coastal storm this evening. Sheet lightning and loud claps of thunder and very dramatic skies…

A dog in the fog on my blog…

July 30th, 2008

It’ been so foggy here this week – everyday my firefox forecaster add-on has been popping up to tell me ‘dense fog’ and so I look out the window and it’s true – sometimes I can hardly see beyond the garden wall it’s so dense. We left the dense fog of Kinghorn behind and went through to Edinburgh on Sunday to celebrate Pete’s birthday and sat in the beer garden of the Cumberland bar in glorious hot sunshine all day – only to return to this…

Button badges that look like flowers…nice!

July 27th, 2008

I’ve been busy making lots of badges/brooches from buttons this week since I ordered a load of these brooch pins – I got a pack of 50, so going try and make 50 brooches before I go on holiday…
Brooch Pins

…that’s if i have enough buttons as I’m running out, but at least with these button brooches I can use up what I term the button dregs – all those lonely singular buttons that have been left out of so many projects.

The view out of my window [1]

July 22nd, 2008

We moved to Kinghorn recently and the view I get out the window at the back of the house is stunning. We live on a cliff and so it’s a sea view. The light changes all the time. The clouds are amazing, the rainbows so bright and the north sea haar is very mysterious. Here it is beginning to roll in from the horizon…

the new moo

July 22nd, 2008

Yay – my mini moo cards arrived this morning. Not really had a chance to look at them and get excited until this evening as I’ve been suffering today with a severe reaction to a couple of insect bites I got on Sunday. My left arm swelled up and I’ve been feeling pretty woozy. But trying out some antihistamine tablets and cream now and they seem to be working.

Two lovely boxes full…

Bling-Bling for your mobile phone

July 21st, 2008

Been using up what I term the ‘button dregs’ today – all the buttons that can’t be paired up or grouped to make earings or bracelets. I thought a way to put them to good use is to make some charms for mobile phones. I got the idea from the two that I have on phone at the moment – both presents from Rachel. One’s a white rabbit from Korea and the other is a Penguin all the way from Antarctica. I thought why not have button charms as well.

So I spent a busy afternoon threading random selections onto pink twine and mixing in a few random beads as well. I’m really pleased with the results. They’re all unique.

Photographic Frenzy…

July 15th, 2008

I’ve been busy photographing the new earrings I made over the weekend today, but as it’s sunny outside and I’ve finished work for the day, I’m off out to the garden for the rest of the afternoon and will add some photography later…and here they are…

I am slowly but surely adding each of these pairs of earrings to my DaWanda shop and all images will link directly to the specific shop page listing each pair of earrings, in case something takes your fancy and you need to buy it now!

Earring Extravaganza

July 11th, 2008

I covered my studio floor in beads, buttons and wire this evening and decided to make some earrings as I’ve been concentrating on making bracelets/bangles for far too long.

Here’s a couple I managed to photograph before it got too dark to make any more pics. The first set of images show a pair that I think look like targets so I’m calling them Target Earrings.

And the others are my Triplet Earrings:

And they’re both available in my shop now.

Recycling Pin

July 10th, 2008

Recycling Pin

Ok so I’m a keen recycler. I try to reduce the amount of packaging that comes through my door and generally only allow items that can be recycled. Well the other day we got some garden furniture and although it was wrapped in sturdy cardboard [OK] it was secured with strong plastic strips [not OK]. So I set myself the task to come with some ideas of what to make with them…so they got plonked onto my studio floor and I’ve been tripping over them ever since!

July 9th, 2008

Button Flower Brooch

I got hold of about 50m of ric rac recently and didn’t know what to do with it and so did a search online for ideas and came across this tutorial at madewithlovebyhannah. The site is full of amazing stuff using really lovely fabrics and embroidery – a true inspiration!

Pouches

July 8th, 2008

I’ve been busy recycling an old leather jacket I used to wear in my college days and came up with these small pouches – big enough to hold a small Muji mirror of mine or a pack of business cards. The buttons are also recycled.

Leather pouches made from an old jacket

I’ve also made some out of fabric from an old pair of jeans and an old shirt – these ones are denim on the inside and flowery fabric on the outside.

My OH saw them and suggested that I make some that would fit mobile phones and iPods…so I’ll be working on ideas for those next. I’m running out of leather though…
