London Treasures…

I’m off to London in a few weeks for the first time in very many years. I’m really looking forward to it as it’s our very own ‘staycation’ as we’re a bit skint and can’t afford to anywhere abroad this year. We’re going to do a Scottish ‘staycation’ when we get back too.  It’s all very exciting and I love the idea of exploring what is on our own doorstep.

So I’m looking for tips and hints of places to go and things to visit. We’re going to be spending a few days in the Natural History Museum and getting lost within the collections – neither of us have been back since we were little and the recent TV series has really got us excited about revisiting as adults.

As well as that we want to find amazing second-hand shops, junk shops, antique shops, art galleries, exhibitions, great places to eat and drink etc. We’ll be based at a friends flat in West Hampstead and plan to walk and explore as much as possible.

So where are the best places to go? Either leave a comment on this post or visit the discussion I’ve started on Facebook and share your thoughts.

    Spitalfields Market!

It is just on the boundary of The City of London, a stone’s throw from Liverpool Street BR station.

On Thursday they have antique and vintage stalls and on a Sunday it is a mix of handmade & vintage (my favourite day!)

Once you have browsed the main market make sure you cross the main road (Commercial Street) and go down the side streets behind All Saints (fashion shop).

You will find many more markets in the Brick Lane area, and those that cannot afford a stall just lay their stuff out on a blanket on the street.

There are lots of yummy ethnic foods, antique shops, great pubs etc.

Have a look in the Old Truman Brewery if you get a chance. It is no longer a brewery and hosts shops and exhibitions.

    Have a fab time!

Thanks Denise – I’m glad you reminded of the Spitalfields Market – Amanda Bluglass that I met on Facebook has a stall there – she bought some of my rings a while ago, so it’d be great to pop by and see her work. The brewery place sounds interesting too – we’ll definitely check that out as well.
