Make a beautiful box from a can!

November 9th, 2010

I just got my regular newsletter from Instructables and saw this fabulous video tutorial on how to make a beautiful box from a simple drinks can.

I really want to try this out – would be great for gifts or even as ring boxes for my antique silver rings!!

You can visit the instructables site and visit the tutorial there, or just watch the embedded video below – this is an example of one of the boxes made:

Now go and create something amazing!!!

If you’re feeling adventurous, you could tackle this Hexagonal Snowflake Box:

I’m definitely going to give this ago and see how long it will take me as I think these would be a brilliant upcycled accompaniment to my recycled jewellery – I would have to offer them as an optional extra at an additional cost if a customer wants a custom made box for the jewellery they’ve purchased. I think the snowflake pattern above is beautiful – will have to think of something different for the boxes I’ll be making – I have just the idea, but not going to share it right now – you’ll just have to wait until I post some images up.

this isn’t as easy as it looks – my first attempt is rubbish as I think I pressed down too hard with the pen when I was marking out the box initially and so after I’d lovingly spent ages on my pattern, the edges split when I was forming the box and so it was ruined.

Maybe it depends on what kind of can you use – maybe drinks cans are all different. I used one that I found on the beach the other day from an enery drink. Might go and get some cans of beer from the shop as maybe the metal used in those is different – studier? Who knows.

I’ll keep on tyring until I get a good result and report back.
