It’s Getting Better

In the words of Mama Cass “It’s getting better, growing stronger”! I heard this song on the radio this morning and it made me feel all cheery and happy as my arm is getting better at long last!

The exercises I’ve been doing up until now have helped my back, neck and shoulders and seem to be calming my nerve issue down. I’ve have a lot of back pain for the past few weeks but not much arm/shoulder/wrist pain and when it does come on, it goes away a lot quicker now so I no longer have prolonged bouts of pain that reduce me tears and fill me with frustration. I’m more mobile and can do more general movements and it no longer hurts to drive [Yay!].

My last few physio sessions have focused on getting my strength back as I find it really difficult to grip with my right hand – so writing has been very tiring and painful, using the mouse causes me pain and I still don’t have the strength to lift a full kettle. I still haven’t used either of my birthday presents and my shiny new fishing rod and new bike are both being totally neglected as both involve gripping for long periods of time! One day soon though…

The physio gave me some strange putty that I need to squeeze and pinch and roll a few times a day to strengthen my hand and arm muscles. It’s really odd stuff as it feel really tough and solid, but if I left it on my desk unattended, it would slowly slump and spread out until it was completely flat and start dripping over the edge. I’ll be doing a time lapse of that at some point over the next few weeks as it’s so weird.

I’ve also been given a stretchy band that I have to loop around a door handle and work with to strengthen the muscles in my arms and shoulders. This however has been the cause of my back pain, so now instead I have to lie on the floor and excercise my arms with two tins of tomatoes and this is much better.

So I’m feeling really positive and hope that I’ll be back to my normal self in a couple of months time or sooner!
