Studio progress

My bump bursting out...

Pregnant though I may be, I’m still very active on the DIY front even though in only small short bursts. I’ve been busy over the past few weeks trying to get my studio painted and just doing it bit by bit and it’s going really well.

Colin kindly sanded all the walls for me and as they’re a mix of freshly plastered bits and old plastered/painted bits, I’ve been doing a white wash of watered down paint on the walls this week and I’ve managed two coats so far and this weekend will be painting it for real.

I’ve gone for white as I want a really bright space, but also opted to paint one wall with a colour and at the moment I’m in love with green and so that’s what it’s going to be. I originally wanted a really bright vivid green, but have changed my mind so many times. I ended up settling for a yellowy/greeny shade called ‘laurel’. Will see how it looks when it goes on and if I don’t like it I can always paint over it.

Here are some photos of the work so far…

I no longer fit into my own overalls, so have to wear Colin’s and only just fit into those – the bump is bursting out a little…

My bump bursting out...

I can’t wait to start moving in and get my jewellery bench set up again – Colin is making me a bespoke one – that’s my promised 40th birthday pressie from last year! I’ve also got some peg board for the wall above the bench so at last all my tools will have their own home. I’m also planning a bit of shelving for all my jars of buttons and a display case from IKEA for finished pieces.

Colin has also kindly offered to make me a new bespoke corner computer desk as the antique wooden one I’ve been using for the past few years in the spare room is far too big for the new studio space. We’re planning on just using some of the offcuts of MDF that we have and I’m going to cover it with old maps and varnish it.

It’s going to look so bright and airy and I just hope I can keep it uncluttered for a change – hopefully with all the new storage and shelving planned I should be able to.
