Successful allotment neglect
February 11th, 2012
Because of my pregnancy I’ve hardly been up to the allotment since last year (it’s at the top of a very steep hill). I braved it recently, just to see how much clearing up I needed to do before planting new stuff out this year and was pleasantly surprised.
One of the things I’d planted and tried to grow for the first time ever was a patch of leeks. I also planted a few in our garden, and they still look like spring onions and haven’t done very well. The ones up at the allotment however actually look like leeks, I was amazed!

They’re still a bit small, so I think I’ll leave them in the ground for a bit longer, but I’m chuffed to bits as I’ve never grown leeks before. Maybe it’s beginners luck as I’d never grown peas before either and we had a bumper crop of those last year too.
Which reminds me… Dan was making pea pod wine with my pods… Must find out how that went – he’s probably drunk it all by now though, so I’ll just have to grow some more peas and get him to make some more this year.
