Thimbles…

Thimbles to be recycled into Jewellery

Now that I’m nearly back in ym studio and will soon be getting ready to do my first Open Studio event in August, I’ve started bringing some of my creative ideas, that I’ve been storing in my head for the past year or so, to life. One of my plans has been to start collecting a more varied range of antique silverware to recycle into jewellery, and not to just concentrate on spoons.

When I was sewing a new cot bumper for my wee boy recently, I used a thimble to protect my finger and even though it wasn’t a sterling silver one, it had a lovely intricate pattern and this got me interested to see if I could source sterling silver thimbles online. I found loads on eBay and they’re obviously collectors items as some were selling for a lot of money. I managed to buy a small batch of thimbles – some are sterling silver, some brass and others unknown (without hallmarks).

I can’t wait to start working with them to make bespoke items on jewellery.
