This ring is one of many in my A.S.Ornate ring collection. It is made from an antique silver spoon that has a slender thin stem with a decorative floral design at both terminal ends.
With it’s intricate floral details and curling tendrils, once formed into a ring the antique silverware spoon is transformed into a miniature crown. Oilell meaning ‘the mythical queen’ is a fitting name for a such a beautiful design.
The teaspoon was originally made in 1951 by a silversmith trading under the name of James Deakin & Sons, based in Sheffield. Who knows what journeys it’s been on and the people it’s encountered, not to mention the amount of tea it has stirred or the gossip it’s heard in it’s lifetime before being discovered by me at the back of a cabinet in an antique shop.
Available in a plain silver finish or with an added antique patina.
Limited edition of 3. The ring is small and slender to a UK ring size ‘O’ – can be made smaller but some of the lovely design will be lost.
This ring, as with all my antique silverware rings, comes with a small provenance tag to identify the silversmith who originally made the spoon, the year it was made and the location of the assay office that hallmarked it.
Making jewellery from antique silverware is something I really enjoy. I love stripping away the years of tarnish and neglect and breathing new life into these forgotten things and making them into something precious that can be given as a gift or keepsake. Maybe the date is relevant to you or the detail in the design, but there’s always something special about an item with so much history – working with it as well as wearing the finished piece.
