Something for Freecycle

September 30th, 2009

I’m listing this item on my blog so folk on the Fife based freecycle network can see what’s on offer. This is a piece of furniture we inherited with the house when we bought it. I’ve been using it for the past year as a table for my sewing machine, but have just re-organised my studio and decided that I don’t have room for it anymore. I’m going to miss the drawers as I filled them to the brim with fabric, wool, thred and all my sewing paraphenalia – not sure where that’s going to go now.

Getting the all clear – I think!

September 25th, 2009

Yesterday I set off towards Edinburgh very early in the morning as I had an appointment at the Royal Infirmary at 9am. I was ushered into a small cubicle and asked to change into a hospital gown and then led into the x-ray department and into a small room. There was a large monitor with Milo/Evie displayed in the centre of the screen. I was introduced to the nurses and then the x-ray lady came through and explained the procedure in full detail.

Hot Air Ballooning…

September 18th, 2009

On Saturday the 12th we went through to Edinburgh to meet up with the Balloon crew from the Edinburgh University Hot Air Ballooning Club and got the opportunity to follow them to a field in Carnwath to watch three hot air balloons take off.  This was all in preparation for a couple of balloon flights we were to do the following day for Colin’s new piece of work for the Cupar Arts Festival. I got the opportunity to try out my newly acquired skills of recording sound.

The Gradual Garden Makeover

August 13th, 2009

Colin’s been working really hard in the garden digging up and bagging up all the layers of red gravel. We’ve given about 20 bags of the stuff away on freecycle already and there’s plenty more – there must be at least two tonnes of the stuff. We’ve kept some to patch up the path down the side of the house, but also used a load of it to fill the huge hole that Colin dug out which will act as the foundation of our new greenhouse.

Shorn

August 6th, 2009

My hair has all been chopped off now and I’m feeling ever so light headed.

It’s just the way I wanted it – shame the OH doesn’t like it…not at all!

Loft looting and the treasures within…

July 20th, 2009

Colin has been insulating the loft and fixing leaks in the roof recently and in the process has unearthed a few treasures. Firstly a roll of really old wallpaper with wacky flowers  on it  – very bright and bold and possible material for envelopes and notebook covers. Secondly a whole box of jam jars. These are lovely and from the 70’s by the looks of the newspaper I found in the box as well.

To cut or not to cut???

July 20th, 2009

My hair is a mess. If anyone can remember the 70s cartoon Crystal Tipps and Alistair then that’ll give you a good idea of the state it’s in. I get it trimmed every few months and then just let it do it’s thing.

Bread with no yeast!

July 14th, 2009

I’ve been reading up about sourdough bread again recently, which is bread made with naturally occurring yeast rather than the stuff you get in a packet from the supermarket. I’ve been wanting to succeed with this for a long time and have followed a few recipes in books and from friends but nothing has worked in the past and it all seemed like too much hard work. Then I bought Hugh’s latest book on bread and followed the recipe in there and I’m really pleased with the results.

Stuff Destined for the Skip or a Freecycler

June 15th, 2009

We hate the concrete garden we have at the front of the house and want to do something about it this summer. It’s going to mean trying to hack away at it with a pick axe ourselves, or if that fails, hiring someone with a pneumatic drill.

A previous owner decided to embed a load of large stones in concrete and then fill in the gaps with small red, white and grey gravel. We don’t know how deep the concrete is.

New Purchases

April 27th, 2009

I’ve been eyeing up the work of Lucy Player ever since I selected her as a Featured Seller on Folksy and I was just looking through her Folksy shop tonight and decided to purchase two of her prints.

These will be lovely hung as a set somewhere in the house. I love the simplicity of the line drawings.

Dilemma

February 26th, 2009

Why is it when you’ve got something mundane/difficult to do, something really lovely and exciting lands in your lap and you then have the dilemma of finishing the mundane/difficult task off before getting on with the lovely/exciting stuff and battling with the constant distraction that the lovely/exciting stuff causes.

Sneak Peek at my new work space…

February 23rd, 2009

I re-organised my room the other day so that I’ve got more of a workspace for milomade as before I just had a tiny cabinet against the wall that just ended up a mess everytime I worked on anything. It was also a genral dumping ground as it was just by the door. So I’ve salvaged an old work desk that Colin made for me when we lived in Abedour.
