These lovely brooches are a new range I am adding to my craft jewellery collection. I was going to wait until the new year, but couldn’t resist adding them to my online shop straight away. I’ve got a huge batch of vintage zips in a range of colours and lengths, so the brooches come in a few different sizes. I’ve only made a few so far, so there will be more to come soon.

Here are some images of the colours/sizes avaialble at the moment:

I mentioned on Facebook earlier that I’d made some brooches from zips last night and that I’d post up some pictures on my blog. I followed a few tutorials and kind of made things up as I went along with their guidance and I really love the results.

Going to have a hunt around for this zip stash later as I’d love to make some more for my craft fair tomorrow.

I want to use them to make a new range of hairclip notecard gift sets and I’m going to sit down and design a new wintry style card for them this weekend.

It’ll be nice to have some festive themed hair clips on offer at my next craft fair!

I made a few of these necklaces a while ago and had difficulty decided on how to photograph them. I played around with a few ideas and never really made any conclusions as to the best approach. I not only find them hard to photograph, I also find them hard to display at craft fairs as well! So I decided to have another go today as I’ve thought about a way I could package them up into bags ready for display/sale and might add some to my shop this week.

I made a few more necklaces recently for my craft fair in Edinburgh but didn’t sell any and I think a lot of that is down to the way they are displayed. So I’m going to try and see if packaging them in lovely bags would make them more sell able. In the meantime I want to try and sell them [...]

I’m pleased to announce that my button flower brooches are back. Recently after several wholesale orders I ran out of my little cream buttons and could no longer make these brooches until I found a new source of buttons. The last stash of millions lasted me for three years and I got those from a haberdashery that was closing down and selling them off in bulk online. I’ve not found a huge source of buttons again, but have acquired a few different small batches that will keep me going for a while.

I have a few of the original buttons left and I’ve made my most recent brooches with these, but the next lot I make this week will use the new buttons that are slightly different. I think it’s going to be nice to have a bit of variety with my little daisies.

Here are my most recent creations.

I stopped making Cloud Brooches a while ago as I ran out of the leather scraps I sourced from an upholsterer and not been able to find a substitute supplier since – I’ve not been looking very hard though and been concentrating on other things to be honest. Historic Scotland ordered a batch of cloud brooches as part of their last order and I panicked as I so wanted to make them again but didn’t have any leather – or so I thought!

Luckily I managed to get enough leather together from some I had squirrelled away to make up the order and I really enjoyed making them again.

So I’m now on the look out for someone local who works with leather who I could get their offcuts from and save them from going in the bin and put them to good use. I posted a question about this on facebook [...]

I thought I’d try photographing my necklaces on a model today – namely me – so I set up the camera on a tripod and got my cable release out. After many different choices of top, I settled for my black icebreaker and took a few snaps. With these necklaces, it’s nice to see them it situ i.e. hung around the neck to get a sense of how they look when you’re wearing them rather than the images I’ve taken of them in the studio lying flat on a wooden board.

Not sure I’m happy with the results to be honest. Think I need to get my manequin out of the loft and use that instead. Unfortunately my maneqin is clad in burgundy cloth so not sure how that would look as I think it’s better to shoot the necklaces against black.

What started me off was a tutorial I’d written for the next issue of Making Magazine (so look out for the June issue) and I got a lovely box full of paper samples from Inspire Me Papers. I made a few notebooks and used regular office paper and even though I love the notebooks, I would prefer them to be a bit more ‘recycled’ and eco friendly. So here goes…

So I got onto one of my regular suppliers and scoured their website for some 100% recycled paper. I use Eco Craft a lot as they do a really good range of recycled card, paper and also biodegradable packaging, and this is the company that supplies me with all my card stock and packaging for my lovely notecards.

I love making hair clips, especially as my hair is so unruly at the moment – strong sea winds and wispy locks don’t go very well together – so lots of colourful hair clips help to keep my locks in order at the moment. I’ve created a few notecard gift sets and they are proving popular – so I’ve got a new set on the block now…

At the moment I’ve got my bright and colourful flower hair clips and my vintage button hair clips…

Now I’m introducing my love heart hair clips. The cards are a completely new design and the hair clips fastened onto them horizontally. I’ve chosen a 100% recycled ivory coloured card stock for these cards and the love heart design is printed in a lovely deep red along the top and bottom of the card.

I took some time this month to photograph some of my stock, in the view that I will gradually be able to add the products to my shop over the next few months. Each day I concentrated on a different product and here are some of the images I took of my lovely button bracelets.

I’ve never really listed these bracelets in my online shop as they’re all quite individual and unique – but decided to categorise them into different groups. Some are made up of only two colours, or three, some are a random mix of colours and through the process of photographing them I realised that I would probably stick with these categories when I make more int he future, so I photographed them individually but also in groups.

Printed on 100% recycled card stock with a lovely brown craft envelope (also 100% recycled) these square notecards are the perfect gift for someone special. With a lovely flower design the 4 hairclips become 4 little flowers standing in a row. I have two different kind of cards…

Stationery is my saviour! I love it to the point that I think I have a fetish, so I love being able to make my own. I’m glad to say that I’ve been making little notebooks today without causing myself too much pain and I’ve been grinning from cheek to cheek, working like a busy bee, cutting, folding and stapling.

I love these notebooks so much and I hope you do too – I’ll be listing some in my shop this week.

They are made from 100gsm plain white office paper and there are 12 sheets in each notebook – absolutely perfect for shopping lists and to-do lists and they’re small enough to slip into your handbag or pocket at just 7cm x14cm in size.

The covers are made from either wallpaper samples I’ve found or lovely sample sheets I recently got from Inspire Me Papers [...]
