Make it Yourself!

December 16th, 2010

I love handmade gifts! I love receiving them and I love making them and giving them too. This year I’ve been giving away a lot of my handmade glass stars that I’ve made in an evening class and I only have one left and that one I’m keeping for myself. Here’s a selection of things you can make yourself either as gifts, or to decorate your home, or as a treat for yourself.

Wishing for a White Christmas

November 18th, 2010

I love snow, but as we live on the coast we hardly ever get a thick covering that settles and stays and so we indulge in our love of snow by visiting family down south every other year or so and it’s so much fun – lots of snowball fights with the kids and giant snowmen. The dog love it too.

Autumn

November 11th, 2010

Autumn is definitely here now isn’t it. Aren’t the colours amazing? I love walking the dog at this time of the year as the sun is always low in the sky at that time in the afternoon and this enriches the colours with that lovely autumnal glow. So I thought this week I’d do an autumnal them with lots of leafy designs and autumnal colours. Enjoy!

Beautiful Lettering

September 2nd, 2010

Jessica Hische is a typographer and illustrator working in Brooklyn, New York. I discovered her work on Craftgawker today and decided that this week’s Theme Thursday would be a selection of her beautifully printed alphabet. Letterpressed on Crane’s 110lb Lettra paper, these individual letters are a selection from the first six alphabets of the Daily Drop Cap project. Printed in an edition of 75. How lovely!

Rain Rain Go Away…

July 1st, 2010

Thanks to Jill Calder for coming up with the rain theme for this week’s Theme Thursday – it’s quite appropriate as Fife is a tad wet today! We could all do with looking at her brightly coloured illustrations to get some colour back into the day. Is summer over? The rain is here and it’s quite grim all of a sudden and even though I found the sunshine far too hot, I miss it already. I do love the rain though, don’t get me wrong, but it’s put a gloomy haze over the day today, so I went onto the Zibbet site to find some silver linings to our rain cloud situation to cheer us all up.

Mellow Yellow

June 24th, 2010

It’s a lovely sunny day and I’ve just discovered three little tomato buds in my greenhouse – they weren’t there yesterday when I was photographing the yellow flowers, so they must have developed over night and this morning – I’m really excited! So to celebrate this and the lovely sunshine here’s a Mellow Yellow theme to give you a sunny glow for the rest of the day.

Summer Snaps

June 17th, 2010

I had a glorious day in the sunshine today putting hte glass into my greenhouse at long last. In the aftertoon, to cool off I took the dog down the beach and went paddling in the sea. I rolled my trouser up to my thighs and pushed them up as high as they could go so I could go far into the water – it was so warm in the shallows that I wish I’d put my swimming costume on and gone for a dip!
