On Sale Now – Elasticated Button Bracelets!

December 11th, 2011

I took the time to photograph each individual button bracelet that I have in stock and I have now added them to my shop at long last – so many people have asked me to sell these online, so I’ve taken the hint and they are now available here.

Cloud Brooches coming to life

August 26th, 2011

I stopped making Cloud Brooches a while ago as I ran out of the leather scraps I sourced from an upholsterer and not been able to find a substitute supplier sinceĀ  – I’ve not been looking very hard though and been concentrating on other things to be honest. Historic Scotland ordered a batch of cloud brooches as part of their last order and I panicked as I so wanted to make them again but didn’t have any leather – or so I thought!

I got a new tool

August 25th, 2011

It’s called a wad punch and it’s amazing. I’ve been making my little button flower brooches for years now and I’ve always cut my leather circles by hand which is OK when I’m making the odd brooch here and there, but when I have to make loads for an order or for a craft fair it’s very time consuming as well as not perfectly accurate. Here’s where a wad punch comes in.

Interesting Shadows

August 24th, 2011

I got my second wholesale order from Historic Scotland recently which is rather exciting, as my stuff must be selling well for them to re-order so soon. My work is being sold via the Craft & Clan shop at Stirling Castle – somewhere I’ve never been and must go to – and I’ve been working on the order in the front room in the afternoon sunshine.

Polymer Clay Buttons

June 10th, 2011

This is something I might have to try – making polymer clay buttons – there are some vintage buttons that are unique and sometimes I find it hard to part with some of the jewellery I make as I know I’ll never come across another button like that again. With this idea, I could make a mould and create a duplicate to keep in my collection for reference and to remember.

Button Monogram Tutorial

June 7th, 2011

This is a lovely button themed tutorial by Jen Jockisch over at the American Crafts Studio blog. Choose any letter from the alphabet, or maybe you want to do a number instead, and then select your colour pallet and pick out your buttons, choose a font etc and away you go….

Necklace Photo Shoot

May 28th, 2011

I thought I’d try photographing my necklaces on a model today – namely me – so I set up the camera on a tripod and got my cable release out. After many different choices of top, I settled for my black icebreaker and took a few snaps. With these necklaces, it’s nice to see them it situ i.e. hung around the neck to get a sense of how they look when you’re wearing them rather than the images I’ve taken of them in the studio lying flat on a wooden board.

Button Strand Necklaces

May 25th, 2011

I’ve been doing a lot of sitting on the sofa watching telly recently as I’ve not been able to do much DIY or work due to my arm injury. But I’ve got to keep my arm and hand active so I’ve been doing short bursts of Milomade activities and one of these has been to make lots of my button strand necklaces.

New Button Hair Clip Notecard Gift Sets

May 20th, 2011

I love making hair clips, especially as my hair is so unruly at the moment – strong sea winds and wispy locks don’t go very well together – so lots of colourful hair clips help to keep my locks in order at the moment. I’ve created a few notecard gift sets and they are proving popular – so I’ve got a new set on the block now…

Button Bracelets

May 19th, 2011

I took some time this month to photograph some of my stock, in the view that I will gradually be able to add the products to my shop over the next few months. Each day I concentrated on a different product and here are some of the images I took of my lovely button bracelets.

OMG – Edible Buttons!

April 8th, 2011

People often liken my elasticated button bracelets to those edible bracelets and necklaces you could get in the 70’s and 80’s – not sure if you can still get them. So imagine my surprise when I came across this shop called Andie’s Speciality Sweets on Etsy selling edible buttons!

Button Fridge Magnets

November 30th, 2010

This is a fab tutorial I’ve been wanting to try out for ages. I’ve got a huge box of magnets that came with the badgemaker I bought a few years ago, but they are the wrong size for the badge component and so not suitable for making badge like magnets. But instead of throwing them away, I’ve squirreled them away for a rainy day or should I say snowy…
