Creative Recycling Workshops

A local Fife based group called Blacksand Contemporary Arts presented work which explored the theme of ‘Coast’ in an exhibition at the Kirkcaldy Museum and Art Gallery between November and January and alongside the exhibition held a number of different workshops. I was asked to be involved and decided to teach people how to make lovely little boxes from aluminium drinks cans.

You may have seen this Tutorial Tuesday post I did a few months ago about a tutorial I found online. Well I adapted this into workshop format and held two workshops in January at the gallery and they were a lot of fun. It’s a fiddly little process and I had to adapt the online tutorial as I only had small drinks cans to work with and so we were going to be making very small boxes instead of large ones.

I thought teaching 8 people at a time was going to be quite a challenge, especially as I’ve never held a workshop before, but each workshop was brillinat – very relaxed and a lot of fun.

I got so much positive feedback and everyone really enjoyed themselves, even though the results were varied and some attempts didn’t resemble boxes at all.
