I recently discovered this great tutorial by Amanda Wood on how to make lovely stickers from recycled paper. The best thing about it is that the tutorial uses one of my favourite things – envelopes with funky security patterns. How could I resist!

Some of you may know that not only do I run Milomade, but I’m also a freelance web designer and run Eskymo New Media Design. I did a favour for a friend recently, taking lots of lovely photographs of her work for a new website I hope to design and build for her quite soon. In return she did a short print run of business cards for me and I was expecting to pick this up from here the next time I went over to Edinburgh, but…

I’ve just added some of my festive decorations to my online shop. I’ve been busy making lots of origami paper wreaths for my up and coming craft fairs in November and December as they were a big seller at the Charity Chic event a while ago. Hopefully they will be again.

I have been invited by The Park Gallery to exhibit a selection of my work at the up and coming Winter Warmth exhibition which will take place in The Park Gallery’s new location on the ground floor of Callendar House in Falkirk. Winter Warmth is now in it’s 6th year and has built up a reputation for showcasing original, high quality art and design work from a wealth of artists, designers and craft makers in Scotland and the UK. I’m lucky to be one of this years 25 artists.

I found this tutorial online a while ago on the Domesticali Blog and have kept it on the back burner for ages. I thought I would give it a go this week as I thought it would be nice to sell some Festive Decorations at my up and coming craft fairs and these would compliment my Paper Garlands very well.

This tutorial was featured in the Summer issue of the UK Handmade magazine and I was reminded of it when I needed a bookmark for the book I’m reading at the moment and had to make one – I forgot that I hadn’t posted it on my blog yet, so here it is for you to enjoy.

Not only have I been working away like a busy bee on envelopes and my shop keepers dummy display, I’ve also been busy making more paper garlands and coming up with a neat way to package them up. My old sewing machine is on it’s last legs though and the tension control is not what it used to be – sounds like it’s a bit incontinent in it’s old age and I guess it is a little – every now and again it just looses control of the thread and I end up battling away with a pin trying to untangle knots.

I love making envelopes – I can’t stress that enough and over the past week or so I’ve been cutting maps, sheet music, pages from comic annuals etc into envelope shapes. I’ve then been folding and gluing and packaging them up – it’s been hard work, but I love repetitive tasks like this and I do love making envelopes – I know I’ve already said that, but I do!

Well my fans have been steadily growing and I can’t believe I’m nearing 500 fans on Facebook already. I have been busy exploring Facebook and connecting with lots of creative folk, so this has helped and been an enjoyable though time consuming process. But if it helps to raise the Milomade profile it’s all worth it.

I’ve been busy with my sewing machine making paper garlands from envelopes, maps and music. This involves punching hundreds of small and large circles from sheets of music, or from envelopes or maps and stitching them all together in long strands to form lovely paper garlands that you can use to decorate your home. Perfect for weddings and parties or to decorate your Christmas tree even, these garlands can be made to custom lengths to suit your needs.
