Creative Exchange – Part 2

June 2nd, 2010

I’ve been working through ideas of what to do with my pieces of coloured acrylic and because the clay pieces that also came in  the box, along with the acrylic,  are flower-like, I’m going to use these as a starting point for my piece(s). I want to make something wearable and tactile and bright – something evoking spring/summer that’s got movement and a flow about it. So I’m thinking along the lines of making a set of jewellery – maybe a neckpiece with earrings to match and/or a bracelet. Or maybe some sort of brooch or collection of brooches.

Loft looting and the treasures within…

July 20th, 2009

Colin has been insulating the loft and fixing leaks in the roof recently and in the process has unearthed a few treasures. Firstly a roll of really old wallpaper with wacky flowers  on it  – very bright and bold and possible material for envelopes and notebook covers. Secondly a whole box of jam jars. These are lovely and from the 70’s by the looks of the newspaper I found in the box as well.

New Purchases

April 27th, 2009

I’ve been eyeing up the work of Lucy Player ever since I selected her as a Featured Seller on Folksy and I was just looking through her Folksy shop tonight and decided to purchase two of her prints.

These will be lovely hung as a set somewhere in the house. I love the simplicity of the line drawings.

Lovely Cushions

Alexandra Ferguson - Be Nice Or Leave Cushion

I just found these lovely cushions on DaWanda.

They’re made by Alexandra Ferguson who works in the fashion industry in New York. She hand makes these great graphical home accessories from 100% recycled felt, often incorporating chunky typography and natural forms. If she could make the text from a burgundgy fabric, it would match my sofa very well.

The Next Featured Sellers on Folksy are…

March 2nd, 2009

My name was pulled out of the hat at Folksy HQ over the weekend and it’s now my duty to choose the four featured sellers for March. Very exciting and daunting task – I instantly put up a twitter announcement to tell people to have more than 5 items in their shop in order to be up for a chance of getting chosen.

I spent most of Sunday morning looking through my favourite shops and was disappointed that a few of my favourite sellers had less than five items in their shops and so I couldn’t choose them. It was so difficult to get the list down to 10 and then go through that and reduce it to 4. But I’ve made my selection now and after sleeping on it, I’ve decided that these are the 4 sellers I have chosen…

Search for a Type Tray Cabinet

January 29th, 2009

I have an old letterpress drawer that Rachel gave me years and years ago and I love it to bits. In the old flat it hung in our bathroom and displayed all my beach finds and little nik-naks. Now in the new house it still hasn’t found a home. Mostly as I would love to use it to organise all my buttons, but as it’s too wide to fit on any of my shelves, I have nowhere to lay it flat, so it’s leaning against a wall in the Library gathering dust. I will probably hang it up again and use it as I did before.

Geekware

December 5th, 2008

I got a really lovely email this week from Nicola Harper, who had seen my wesbite/blog and wanted to let me know how much she loved my stuff as she is also a keen recycler and she introduced me to her ‘geekware’ items all made from electronic waste.

First issue of Selvedge x2

July 30th, 2008

I treated myself last month and decided to stop visiting the Fruitmarket gallery and salivating over copies of Selvedge and actually subscribe to the magazine at long last. I got money off thanks to Rachel giving me a discount voucher – so don’t feel too much out of pocket. I got quite a suprise this morning when Abee delivered the post, to find not only the May/June edition, but the July/August one as well!
