Round The Horn 2013

Round The Horn 2013

It’s that time of year again when we creative folk in Kinghorn open our studios, shops and galleries to the public prior to Christmas for an exciting Advent Calendar Trail around the village. Following the success of last year’s inaugural event, we’ve expanded a little and now have 11 venues on the creative trail and a total of 16 artists/makers involved this year. It’s going to be a great day out – I do wish that I could join in and do the trail myself, but as one of the venues, that’s just not going to be possible!

We set up Round The Horn last year as a follow on from the Central Fife Open Studios that happened over the summer – you can read about that here. The event was a bit of a trial run as we had no idea whether it was going to be a success or not. Well – what an amazing day it turned out to be and the requests came flooding in to make it an annual event. So we’ve complied – didn’t take much pursuading as, although it was hard work and exhausting, it was amazing too!

So we’ve gone official and set up a committee, of which I am Chair! We got ourselves a community group bank account and also applied for funding. This has allowed us to set up a website, get a bigger better leaflet printed and expand a little. So put the 16th November in your diaries and come Round The Horn and have a great day out. We’re going to be opening the doors at 10am and will remain open all day until 5pm.

With such a diverse variety of work on display, it’s a great chance to get your hands on something original and unique and buy direct from the artists/makers themselves – it could a gift or a treat for yourself – but you’ll be buying in the knowledge that you’ll be supporting local artist and makers and small business alike and helping them thrive!

There’ll be paintings, prints, sculpture, jewellery, ceramics. textiles, glass, homewares, clothing, accessories, papercrafts and more!

Here’s the line-up for this year:

Round The Horn 2013 - Andrew Bentley-Steed Round The Horn 2013 - Annie Crow

Round The Horn 2013 - Carole Robinson Round The Horn 2013 - Catherine Lindow

Round The Horn 2013 - Claire Christie Round The Horn 2013 - Derek Cadogan

Round The Horn 2013 - Douglas Gray Round The Horn 2013- Evie Milo

Round The Horn 2013 - Lynette Gray Round The Horn 2013 - Maggie MacDonald

Round The Horn 2013 - Ritchie Feenie Round The Horn 2013 - Rose Bentley Steed

I did want to be clever and have all the above thumbnails link to the respective artist pages on the Round The Horn website, but for some reason half of them were opening up a blank pop up lightbox and not a web page, so I gave up and instead here is a link to the Round The Horn artist directory and there you can find out more about each of the artists involved – bear in mind though that the directory also includes a few people from last year’s event who are not involved this year.

And now for a bit more info… Leaflets with maps of the creative trail showing the 11 venues to visit are available from:

Kinghorn Station Studio & Gallery
The Dragon’s Den
Hide & Sleek
Kinghorn Community Centre
Delight Delicatessen
Nicola’s Cupcake Cafe
– Adam Smith Theatre (Kirkcaldy)
– Kirkcaldy Galleries

We have also be distributing our leaflets door to door locally within Fife and beyond.

Following the complete trail around Kinghorn will make you automatically eligible for entry into our prize draw to win a Christmas Stocking full of beautiful items from the artists and makers involved in Round The Horn this year.

All you need to do is open the door to each venue and receive a picture stamp from all the locations marked on the trail. That’s a total of 11 venues to visit, with 11 picture stamps to collect. Each venue is clearly marked on the map in the leaflets provided and will also be clearly decorated with red balloons on the day, so it will be easy to spot each venue from a distance.

When you have completed the trail and have collected all your picture stamps, there is a space on your leaflet for you to enter your contact details. Simply fill this out and hand your leaflet in at the last venue you visit. Once the event is finished, all the leaflets will be collected together and we will draw one lucky winner out of a hat and contact them directly to let them know they’ve won. We will announce the winner on the website as well as on our Facebook page.
