I see interesting patterns everywhere – even dull concrete can be an inspiration. I love the fact that nature always prevails and plants push their way through solid concrete just to reach the light. Cracks form under foot too for no reason other than decay and old age.
Kinghorn beach is mostly made up of the standard dark yellow sand, but we do get whole swathes of black sand as well that form intricate patterns on the beach when the tide goes out. At first light or at dusk you get amazing shadows that highlight the undilations and patterns formed by the shifting sands as the tide washes in and out and I’ve photographed these patterns so many times as they’re all unique and equally amazing.
