Along with a whole host of other days throughout the year, Mother’s Day was just another one of those commercialised days for me, taken over by card companies and florists getting people to part with their hard earned cash.
Then I became a parent and over the years have warmed to Mother’s Day more and more – and Father’s Day for that matter too.
Don’t get me wrong, I think parents need to be celebrated everyday.
Parenting is a full time job on top of the work we do for a living and often we feel taken for granted, unappreciated, unloved. But the majority of the time things are just tickety-boo and having a special day to celebrate our parents each year is lovely.
And along comes Mother’s Day which is a great opportunity to show some extra love and care to our mothers. These are the women who carried us in their wombs, gave birth to us, changed our nappies daily and carried us around despite having zero energy and just got on with the amazing job of raising us to be who we are today. Sometimes it was hard, sometimes it was easy, but overall aren’t mothers just amazing?!
Don’t worry dad’s, you’ll get your day later on in the year….and you guys do any amazing job too!
I’ve created a Mother’s Day Gift Guide to help you find the perfect gift for your wonderful mum…
