Sea Fishing

We went fishing with Dan recently and I loved it so much that I want to buy myself a new spinning rod and start fishing off the rocks in Kinghorn and further up the coast on a regular basis. We drove up to Elie very early on a Sunday morning and fished off the rock there.

We used Dan’s fishing rods and he showed us how to tie on the lures and I’m amazed that I mastered the special knot required so quickly – I wonder whether I’ll remember it for next time? The tide was high and I managed to catch the first fish – it was a tiny little thing, so it got flung back, only to be caught by Colin a few minutes later.

Colin didn’t have much luck after that, but I managed to catch 4 decent sized fish for a lovely chowder we’d planned to make for our tea.

My fishies are the ones on the right. I was really pleased with the fact  I managed to catch 4 good sized ones. I did catch more, but had to throw the back as they were too small to keep.

After watching The Cove and then the documentary The End of the Line, I’ve really been put off buying fish from the supermarket – you have no idea how it’s been caught and where and what damage has been done to the sea bed through the process. I was so shocked by these documentaries and put off buying fish that are caught and mass slaughtered in such vast quantities – soon there will be no fish left in the oceans.

From now on I’m going to insist on finding out and knowing how fish is caught and where, whenever I choose to buy it.
