I believe I’m quite a tolerant person, but sometimes I’m pushed beyond the boundaries of tolerance and I get really annoyed. This morning was a classic example. It was really hot yesterday, so lots of people flocked the beach to enjoy the sunshine – I have nothing against that – but this morning I walked the dog on the beach and picked up two bag fulls of rubbish left behind by these people. There are bins [approx 6] situated all the way along the edge of the beach and yet the whole place was strewn with litter. Mostly drinks cans, plastic bottles, crisp packets, icecream wrappers etc. I just don’t understand why these people think that it’s OK to leave their rubbish behind for the likes of me to wade through in the morning.

This happens in the UK, too? And I thought it was just Florida slobs that did that. I’m from New York State and you never see trash tossed there like here in Florida. They just toss the trash out the windows of cars and truck, and I am always saying, What are they thinking? How can they do that? Why? I, too, am a tolerant person, but this is one thing that really bothers me, too.
I feel like walking around during the day with a plackard asking people to take their rubbish home. Or maybe I shoudl go around and do a survey with questions like ‘Do you know what a dustbin is and how to use it?’
Scottish beaches are appalling after a sunny day, I mean how difficult is it to put your rubbish in a plastic bag and put it in the bin when you’re on your way home?
Your kind act of picking up after them reminds me of school, we used to have litter duty and one girls mum complained and told the school her daughter wouldn’t be partaking. Then on a daily basis – especially when our class was on litter duty – she’d be dropping every single bit of litter she produced on the group. That attitude of “let someone else get it” really annoys me.
Shame you can’t give lifetime bans to beach litterers!
