I spent the whole day in Cupar today invigilating Colin’s exhibition, so in order to make the best of the time, I took up all the bits and pieces I needed to make a new lot of button charm bracelets.
I recently purchased some sterling silver Belcher chain from Cookson’s in order to make necklaces, but I completely forgot about the weight of each piece and as I’m not currently hallmarking my work I have to stick to pieces that weight under 7.78g and so decided to cut the chains in half and make bracelets with them instead. It’s worked out perfectly as the thicker chain is more suited to bracelets and I ordered a thinner Belcher chain for the necklaces I want to make. So it’s all worked out perfect in the end.
I used to make button charm bracelets from chunky silver plated toggle clasp chains – which looked great, but I didn’t like the fact that they were silver plated and also that so many other people were using a similar chain to make similar bracelets. I want my button charm bracelets to stand out and I’m really pleased I opted for the Belcher chain as it’s so simple and delicate and brings out the vintage quality and delicacy of the buttons.
Here are a few pics of the ones I made today…
