I got a really lovely email this week from Nicola Harper, who had seen my wesbite/blog and wanted to let me know how much she loved my stuff as she is also a keen recycler and she introduced me to her ‘geekware’ items all made from electronic waste.

After a 5 year stint as a professional Waste Management Engineer and countless trips to landfills all over the world (even whilst on vacation!), I left the 9-5 corporate world and launched Acorn Studios in 2004.
In Spring 2008 Acorn Studios became GEEKWARE, and I launched a new MAC-ware range in response to the huge number of requests from the Apple Mac fans.
Take a peek at her website and see the fantastic stuff she makes. Here are a few of my favourites. I love these items made from computer keyboard keys – stud earrings, hair grips and cufflinks…

These ‘homeware’ items are also great. I love the Christmas and heart decorations as the green colour of the circuit boards mixed with the silver of all the circuit board elements is very decorative when taken out of context and looks perfect! The CD clock is great – I wonder how she gets the distressed look, it’s very effective and no longer looks like a CD. There’s a whole range of these in different colours and they’re all fab.

The fridge magnets are inspired and I recently had the same idea as I’ve had an old mac keyboard lying around for ages as I couldn’t bear to throw it away so decided to take it to pieces instead…so Nicola and I had a bit of an email discussion this week about the type of magnets to use, so I maybe making some soon too. If I can’t find the right magnets, Nicola suggested that I could use hot glue and drawing pins instead and make pins for my noticeboards which is a great idea and I might take her up on that and also her idea of doing the same with buttons, as I’ve got a whole stash of buttons with no matching pairs which would be ideal for this.
