I was recently asked this question by the guys at Makers Online with regards to how I package my goods as well as how I present them. They asked me to answer a few questions and my answers appeared on their blog in July – I’ve only just got round to noticing! Ooops. So if you’d like to find out where I source all my biodegradable packaging or find out how I make my gift bags or find out what goes into making my craft fair displays, read on.

We all know how it important it is when buying things at a supermarket to try and find ways to reduce the amount of packaging we purchase with our goods, but when it comes to the day to day running of your own business it can be harder to incorporate, especially when selling online involves sending your goods through the mail or at craft fairs and shops where items need to be wrapped up to protect them.
I’ve strived hard over the past few years to keep to theme of reduce, reuse, recycle when it comes to packaging up my goods, whether this be for online sales or for selling at Craft Fairs and Events. I’ve always thought it was important to be consistent throughout the ‘whole process’ of my work from start to finish and so sourcing or making the right kind of packaging has always been a high priority. Initially it was hard to source biodegradable bags for my work so I resorted to making my own gift bags from magazine pages, but as my product range grew, so did my need to find ready made packaging that was eco-friendly. I now have two suppliers that I can trust and who produce a huge array of biodegradable bags and boxes and I can now devote more time to making products and not into making packaging – I do still use my own made gift bags at craft fairs though as people love them. Craft fairs are a great way to promote your business and meet your buying public, but getting your display to not only look good but stay within the eco friendly ethos can be a challenge.
I love Craft Fairs and I also love coming up with ever more inventive ways of displaying my products that not only shows them off well, but also appeals to the whole Milomade ‘Too good to waste’ motto. To find out more about what I have to say on the matter, visit this Makers Online article:
