500 Facebook Fan Giveaway!

Well my fans have been steadily growing and I can’t believe I’m nearing 500 fans on Facebook already. I have been busy exploring Facebook and connecting with lots of creative folk, so this has helped and been an enjoyable though time consuming process. But if it helps to raise the Milomade profile it’s all worth it.

I see Facebook as one big networking event and it’s like being in a big room full of creatives and handing my business card out to people. By leaving links on other people’s discussion pages and fan pages, it is like giving your business card out and doing a little 60 second pitch on who I am and what I do. Hopefully people read my pitch and visit my links to find out more and that’s how connections are made. If they’re interested, then they pop by my website and my fan page and complete the ‘connection’ by becoming a fan of Milomade.

I find Facebook so much more interactive than Twitter, that I’ve pretty much stopped using Twitter and only post up stuff on that site via my Facebook page now. My impression of Twitter is that people post up their tweets and don’t really bother to read the tweets posted up by their followers or the people they are following. It’s a difficult to do – to keep track of everything that is posted up on the site would take up all of your time and most of it is just sales and links to shop listings. I find it hard and also quite boring as the tweets are disjointed bits of information – there’s only so much you can say in 140 characters and I don’t see the point of it anymore… not sure I ever did to be honest.

I did some tests recently and asked people to ‘re-tweet’ some of my tweets as I wanted to get some information and feedback from people and was thinking it would work like the 6 degrees of separation, but my tweets didn’t get retweeted at all. I was hopeful, but then I came back down to reality and realised twitterers don’t really care about other people’s tweets very much – they’re only out to promote themselves and their own products – it’s quite a selfish atmosphere – I don’t like it anymore. I remember someone tweeting about trying to find an old friend and asked people to retweet his request to find his friend. Even though I didn’t know this guy or his friend I thought it was important to retweet the information to all my followers and would hope they would do the same until the two people could get connected. They did got connected and I got a personal thank you for getting involved and retweeting. That’s what Twitter is all about, but I think most people don’t see the application in this way.

I find it impossible to connect with people on Twitter and so much prefer using Facebook and I love connecting with folk on Facebook – it’s more immediate and more direct and content related. I love the comments and feedback I get from people about my posts and snippets. You can’t really do that on Twitter. OK Facebook can be annoying too in that recently they changed the whole ‘Fan’ thing and turned Fans into Likes – but the functionality is still the same, so we all had a bit of a stomp and moan about it then realised that not much had changed and just got with using the site as normal.

Anyway, enough ranting…

I’d like to let you know that I love Facebook and love my fans and all their lovely comments and conversations and feedback and their creativity and talent and how many ands can I have in one sentence??

So when I reach 500 fans on Facebook I’ll be doing a big giveaway. I’m going to put all the names of my 500 fans into my trusty bowler hat and pick out one lucky winner who will receive a pack of Milomade Stationery stuff including some Gift Tags, some Envelopes, some of my Bookmarks and a Paper Garland too.

So to be in with a chance of winning you need to become a fan of Milomade on Facebook, so if you’re not a fan already, use the fan box in the sidebar on the right to connect to my fan page and join in.
